Styled Shoot! "Perfect Pear" by Mad Oddities Events!

Updated: Apr 17, 2022

A few months back, we were lucky to meet Grisell Careaga, owner of Mad Oddities Weddings & Events at the Dr. Phillip's House open-house event. Recently, they created an incredible styled shoot called "The Perfect Pear", and we are completely obsessed! We asked Grisell if we could blog about it, and she was kind enough to give us access to all of the photos. We think you will all agree how amazing it is!

"The Perfect Pear" in all their glory!

We asked Grisell what was her inspiration for the shoot, here's what she shared with us: "The Perfect Pear” originated years ago while I was attending Johnson & Wales University and I got an assignment to plan a mock wedding. Inspired by my favorite artist, Marilyn Manson and the Glam Goth Culture, I came up with a design based solely around Red, Black, and skulls but the design has since then evolved into a more elegant “Pear” focused décor with a rather romantic play on words (The Perfect Pear/Pair). The Perfect Pear is Mad Oddities’ first styled shoot and I would say it definitely portrays the uniqueness I hope to bring to all of our future events! "

Truly "The Perfect Pear"

Orlando's most iconic and beautiful outdoor setting, The Maitland Art & History Center was a perfect backdrop for this shoot. As you can see from the pictures, every piece was carefully considered and fits exquisitely into the theme. The feasting table's blood-red cloth sets the scene, with the matte black plates providing the other major color in the palette. All other elements echo and improve the scene, such as the pears that adorn the the table showing a slight sparkle to offset the darkness. The floral is dominated with the same red, but matched perfectly with black vases and bits of greenery to reflect the natural outdoor setting. And the models! The environment and pieces are incredible, but the models are truly the stars of the show and tie the whole vision together. Of course they convey the red and black theme, and the dresses are stunning, but they really connect to the environment they are in. Their secret looks for each other and smoldering glances at the camera are the perfect candle on top of this pear-themed cake!

When we asked Grisell what advice she had for others who want to do styled shoots, she gave us these pearls of wisdom: "The biggest challenges will always be linked to things that are out of our control; for example for us it was the intense heat. On the day of the shoot the heat was unbearable, thankfully, the Art & History Museum was amazing and was able to accommodate our models with an air conditioned room upon request. Overall, I think the best advice for someone doing a styled shoot is to give yourself enough time to plan and meet with vendors; having a great team of vendors will make a huge difference! Ideally, on the day of the event, the team you’ve assembled will come together to help you make an amazingly crazy idea into a reality, so you should be able to trust them with your vision as these are the same people that will help you execute your clients’ dream events as well. And most importantly, stay true to you, your vison, and your aesthetic; some will love it and others won’t care for it, but if you never try to put it out there you’ll never know!"
